NFT Twitter is accusing the builders of the MEE6 Discord bot of carelessness. These accusations arrived soon following an NFT Twitter detective who noticed that NFT hackers were manipulating the MEE6 Discord bot to hack an alarming selection of substantial-profile Discord servers.
Why is NFT Twitter accusing MEE6 Discord bot Developers?
In accordance to on-chain analyst @NFTherder: “In May, 70 discords received exploited, like major jobs like @RTFKT and @coolcatsnft. Even OpenSea’s formal discord was breached! 26 of the 70 discords had been compromised by the @mee6bot. MEE6 has nonetheless to launch a specific report in reaction to the 26 breached servers.”
Other Discord end users confirmed @NFTherder’s suspicions. “Inexcusable and unacceptable. They ought to just take far more accountability here. “Whoops, sorry users” does not reduce it. Not for me at least,” commented @gartherly. @gryphonNFT pointed out that even well-liked on the net gaming platform Roblox experienced fallen victim to these attacks.
About MEE6 Discord Bot
@NFTherder singled out the MEE6 Discord bot as problematic. This Discord plugin, employed by over 18 million servers, makes it possible for customers to assign roles on their own by using Discord reactions. It is also a primary moderator and can send administration messages.
Although it is clearly valuable, NFT hackers have applied this bot to send spam messages and pass malware back links. Considering that the MEE6 Discord bot is really popular, the Discord neighborhood extensively trusts its messages. As a consequence, it enables NFT hackers to manipulate servers.
Undoubtedly, Discord security is a bone of contention in the NFT community. High-profile NFT Discord servers have fallen prey to hackers hoping to exploit the popularity of NFTs. Clearly, Discord server proprietors want to amp up safety to avoid such scandals.
